Leadership Spotlight: Jennifer Camacho – Building the Future of Tech at UCSF Fresno
When you talk to Jennifer Camacho, Director of Information Technology at UCSF Fresno, her passion for purposeful innovation comes through immediately. Since joining UCSF in 2017, Jennifer has led technology efforts across academics, operations, and research on the Fresno campus. But her work goes far beyond infrastructure and service delivery— it’s about aligning IT strategy with the future of medical education in the Central Valley.
“I like to be challenged,” she says, “especially when my work in technology ties to strategic vision.” Jennifer is particularly energized by UCSF’s commitment to expanding medical education programs in the San Joaquin Valley — a region with a persistent shortage of health professionals. By building out the technology capacity to support this growth, she sees her role as one that directly contributes to more equitable health outcomes across California.
She also has her eye on the horizon. Artificial intelligence, advanced data analytics, and extended reality (XR) are among the emerging technologies she sees transforming medical education and research. Her advice? “Invest in internal talent, foster a data-informed culture, and build agile systems that prepare us for what’s next.”
A strong believer in taking initiative, Jennifer reflects on her own career trajectory: “Early in my career, I pursued an advanced degree, earned certifications, and led complex projects beyond my core responsibilities. That prepared me for the next step.” She encourages others to do the same — take ownership of your growth and align it with the future you envision.
Jennifer also finds inspiration in those with a growth mindset, no matter their title. That perspective shows up in her leadership style — collaborative, forward-thinking, and committed to meaningful impact. We are lucky to have a leader like her amongst us and are inspired by her talent and passion!
