Lisa Tran

Name (pronouns):
Lisa Tran (she,her,hers)
Department/Division:
Medicine, Chair’s Office
Years at UCSF:
2.5 years
Role in technology:
Digital Communications; webmaster to 60+ UCSF websites
What technology project(s) have you worked on that you are most proud of?:

Co-leading the department’s website migration to Drupal 8; When I was first hired in 2017, our department had around 17 websites on 5 different templates. Fast-forward a year later, we launched the DOM site- a summation of 33 unique sites, each representing our divisions at UCSF Health, ZSFG, and – for the first time – the VA.

How has technology helped you achieve a goal within your role or department?:

Technology is part of my job, but I love that we have access to so many other tools and platforms. I use Slack daily, and it’s been a time-saver to get quick responses from colleagues at UCSF.

What’s your favorite aspect of your role at UCSF and why?:

Meeting and connecting with other colleagues on campus; Because of the nature of my role, I interact with everyone in our 16 divisions. I meet with chiefs and directors, and train admin staff/fellowship coordinators/communicators on editing their websites.

What’s one ‘fun fact’ about you that not many people know?:

I travel using points. 8 years ago, I booked my first international flight to London (with a 5-day stopover in Chicago) —and paid $5. After realizing how easy it was, I haven’t looked back.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?:

Travel, eat, and invest.

If you could learn anything, what would that be?:

Re-learn Korean. I took an intensive learning course years ago and was able to speak fluently “that one” summer.
