Since joining UCSF in 2023, Charlotte Kerio has become a key leader in one of the most transformative initiatives underway at the university: Project One, UCSF’s comprehensive Oracle Cloud implementation. As the Technical Project Manager, Charlotte serves in a dual role—both the overall project manager and the project manager of the Technical Workstream. Her days are spent orchestrating the complex coordination of integrations, data migration, system architecture, and quality assurance needed to bring a new enterprise platform to life.
Charlotte describes the work as both exciting and deeply meaningful. “It is a privilege to be part of Project One,” she reflects, noting the careful planning and rigorous standards required to ensure technical deliverables are built, tested, and validated in a way that sets the entire organization up for success.
Championing Women in Tech
When asked who she admires in the technology space, Charlotte points to Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code. Saujani’s message of bravery over perfection deeply resonates with her. Charlotte explains, “Her work highlights the critical importance of not just teaching technical skills, but also fostering a supportive environment where women can embrace imperfection and learn to be brave, not perfect.” That philosophy is one Charlotte models in her own work—encouraging curiosity, continuous learning, and courage in the face of complexity.
A Transformational Moment at UCSF
Charlotte is particularly energized by the multi-year rollout of Oracle Cloud across HCM, Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Research. She sees this initiative as a pivotal moment for UCSF—a shift away from siloed legacy systems toward a unified, modern digital ecosystem. With this comes the promise of real-time analytics, streamlined processes, and a more efficient operating model that supports UCSF’s mission of caring, healing, teaching, and discovering.
Looking Ahead: AI, Data, and the Future
As for what’s on the horizon, Charlotte sees two major forces reshaping the future: Generative AI and Precision Medicine powered by predictive analytics. Success in the next era of work will require digital fluency, comfort with AI collaboration, and a strong grounding in data ethics and security. She notes that safeguarding information is rapidly becoming “a valuable professional asset today and in the future.”
Advice for Growing a Tech Career
Charlotte’s guidance for colleagues is simple but powerful: keep learning, stay curious, and seek stretch opportunities. Her own career growth has been fueled by tackling large-scale, cross-functional projects, including her leadership roles on Project One. Hands-on experience, she emphasizes, is not just valuable—it’s essential. It strengthens technical skills while opening doors to new roles and responsibilities across the organization.
Charlotte’s leadership reflects the best of WIT@UCSF—technical expertise, mission-driven focus, and a commitment to lifting others along the way. We’re proud to spotlight her work and grateful for the positive impact she brings to the UCSF community every day.
